KAGADI, UGANDA: Kagadi District war veterans have been challenged to prevent themselves from being recruited into the ADF or even in any opposition political party as the government is looking towards clearing their grievances.
Lieutenant Grace Muganzi the UPDF commissar for Bunyoro Region based at 9th battalion in Kyaterekera, Kagadi district says government is finding solutions to the problems affecting veterans especially those of unpaid pensions and gratuities.
“Do not be persuaded by any opposition party or the ADF rebels, our government is working upon your issues and soon your issues shall be resolved”. Mugenyi said.
He made the remarks on Monday while meeting veterans and widows of veterans at Kagadi District council Hall.
However, veterans denied concerns about the joining of rebel forces due to government’s delayed payments for their pensions and gratuities but asked government that quicken its process of paying them.
Veterans all over the country have expressed concern over the government’s failure to pay their pensions, compensation for their property and gratuity for their loved ones they lost during the NRA gorilla war in 1980’s.
