ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, confirmed the incident saying the taxi in which the deceased’s body was found was traveling from Katooke, Bwaise to Kampala City.

“It is alleged that when the taxi reached Nakivubo Mews, the taxi operators tried to wake up Apangu to pay the fares only to realize that he was dead,” said Owoyesigire.

“Our homicide team has visited the scene and realised the deceased had a swelling on the eye, an indication that he had been beaten or hit,” he added.

The incident caused a scene in downtown Kampala as dozens of people struggled to take a glimpse of the dead man.

Police later collected Apangu’s body and conveyed it to Mulago for a post mortem to establish the real cause of his death.

“We have also arrested the driver of the motor vehicle, John Semwogerere, and Bruno Mawejje to help aid in the ongoing investigations,” said Owoyesigire.
