Shock as man collapses dead in taxi

ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson confirmed the incident

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police in Kampala is investigating circumstances under which a passenger was discovered dead in a moving taxi in Kampala city.

The deceased identified as a 30-year-old Peter Apangu was on Thursday afternoon found dead in a taxi registration number, UAU 859L.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, confirmed the incident saying the taxi in which the deceased’s body was found was traveling from Katooke, Bwaise to Kampala City.

“It is alleged that when the taxi reached Nakivubo Mews, the taxi operators tried to wake up Apangu to pay the fares only to realize that he was dead,” said Owoyesigire.

“Our homicide team has visited the scene and realised the deceased had a swelling on the eye, an indication that he had been beaten or hit,” he added.

The incident caused a scene in downtown Kampala as dozens of people struggled to take a glimpse of the dead man.
