Hospital staff arrested for selling covid 19 vaccination cards

HOIMA, UGANDA: Police in Hoima has arrested a health worker attached to Butema Health Centre III in Buhanika Sub county for allegedly selling Covid 19 vaccination cards.

The arrested have been identified as Ivan Bigirwaa cleaner attached to the health facility.

Bigirwa was arrested on Sunday afternoon selling the vaccination cards at Hoima Booma grounds to unvaccinated people.

It is alleged that the suspect coordinated with the officer in charge of Butema health center iii and other medical workers at the facility and they stamped all the cards which he was selling to people.

Julius Allan Hakiza the Albertine Regional police spokesperson says Bigirwa was arrested after a concerned citizen notified police.Bigirwa was selling the vaccination cards at a price between 50000/= and 100000/= and his sale point was Hoima Booma grounds.

“We have impounded one suspect who a cleaner attached to Butema health center iii who was selling covid 19 vaccination cards to unvaccinated people and we have called the officer in charge of the health facility and other medical staff members to come and make their statements as police investigations continue”. Hakiza said.

Hakiza added that police is also investigating workers at Hoima RRH who are also said to have been selling these cards.
