KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police in Entebbe have in their custody one of their senior officers arrested who is alleged to have killed her mother by locking her in the house and later setting it on fire in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire identified the suspect as Edward Bua, 38, an Assistant Superintendent of Police who is a lawyer by profession found with a matchbox on Saturday morning.
“We have detained the officer at Entebbe Police Station on charges of murder,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigire said the deceased, Mageret Nyakuni Onzia, 66, who was the Deputy Director Uganda Nurses and Midwife Council died in the fire at her home in Bugonga, Entebbe Municipality in Wakiso District.
Owoyesigyire said that after receiving the information, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene immediately and extinguished the fire but found the deceased already dead. He says upon Bua’s arrest, a matchbox was recovered from his cloth pockets pointing to the fact that he was responsible for the arson.
Police, however, did not reveal the circumstances and motive of the arson but her body was retrieved and taken to Mulago Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
