Two UPDF Soldiers Killed by Truck in Malaba – Jinja Highway Accident

Traffic police spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima confirmed the accident and said the truck driver was on the run, but more details would later be shared in due course.

TORORO, UGANDA: Police in Tororo district have launched investigations under which a container truck knocked dead two UPDF soldiers on the spot and the driver took off.

The accident involving the truck of Registration No. KCB 973X/ZD 5045 and a URA Toyota Hilux of Reg No. UBA 948S happened on Saturday morning at 3 am along the Malaba -Jinja Highway in Tororo District.

The deceased identified as Warrant officer Collins Manayanga and Private James Tumusime were both UPDF soldiers attached to Uganda Revenue Authority/ Customs Malaba.
The duo had been deployed at the T-junction to divert empty trucks to Lwakhakha border to allow customs agents clear cargo trucks entering Uganda through the Malaba and Busia points of entry.

Traffic police spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima confirmed the accident and said the truck driver was on the run, but more details would later be shared in due course.

“The hunt for the trailer driver who fled the scene moments after causing the accident is on and more details will be shared in due course.” ASP Nampiima in a statement.

By press time, the bodies of the deceased had been conveyed to Rubonji army barracks mortuary for post-mortem examination.
