KAMPALA, UGANDA: It was all pomp and glamour as H.E Michelle Kirabo took over as the new Guild President of Victoria University – Uganda’s leading transformational institution of higher learning.
Kirabo assumed the office of Guild Presidency taking over the reins from Mr. Serebe Denis at the handover ceremony held on Friday, February 25, 2022, at the prestigious university’s main campus in Kampala.
She and her new guild council were sworn in for the one-year term in office assuming the new duties with immediate effect.
“H.E Michelle Kirabo, took over the reins today, as the new Guild President of the transformational @VUKampala. Let us welcome our New Guild President & her team. We also salute the outgoing team, for the great job done!,” Victoria University said in a Friday tweet, shortly after the function.
The function also saw the outgoing guild council headed by outgoing President, Serebe Denis recognized and awarded certificates of good merits for their dedication and political term of serving the university.
The glamourous Friday ceremony was attended by the newly appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs – Prof. Augustine Ife, Mrs. Mary Goretti Katusabe the University Secretary, among other staff members.
Kirabo, a second-year Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies was last month declared the new Guild President of Victoria University after emerging winner of the online guild elections in which she garnered 461 (74.8%) votes to beat her rival Abdul-Basit Kasimagwa with 25.2% (155 votes).
In her inaugural speech, Kirabo promised to be more practical than theoretical and to work hand in hand with everyone at Victoria University to prioritize students’-based leadership.
