Oulanyah Burial declared Public Holiday

In a brief announcement via Twitter, the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance announced that tomorrow (Friday) will be a countrywide public holiday to allow citizens to attend the burial of the deceased.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Government has declared Friday, April 8, 2022, to be observed as a national public holiday in honor of the later former speaker Hon. Jacob Oulanyah.

The late Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah died on Sunday, March 20 after losing battle to ‘colon cancer’, and his body will be laid to rest tomorrow, Friday, April 8, at his ancestral home in Omoro district.

In a brief announcement via Twitter, the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance announced that tomorrow (Friday) will be a countrywide public holiday to allow citizens to attend the burial of the deceased.

Jacob Oulanyah, an agricultural economist, and lawyer, served as deputy speaker between 2006 and 2016. Oulanyah became Speaker of the 11th Parliament on May 24th 2021.

Oulanyah also became the first speaker of parliament in Uganda to die in office (former Speakers James Wapakhabulo and Francis Ayume died after they had left office)
