KAMPALA, UGANDA: Members of Parliament have defeated UPDF Generals 3-1 in a thriller match to emerge winners of the Lt. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Birthday cup.
The match held on Friday 29th April 2022 at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo was part of the activities aimed at celebrating the birthday of First Son Gen Muhoozi who made 48 years of age on 24th April 2022.
UPDF’s team captain, Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) scored the only goal for the army’s side but was not enough to overturn a 3-goal deficit as the MPs emerged victorious and took home the Muhoozi Birthday Cup trophy.
Hon Peter Ogwang and Sanon Bwire scored the three goals for the legislators.
The match also drew Ministers such as Hamson Obua, FUFA president Moses Magogo to a fascinating workout by the leaders. Also UPDF Generals James Birungi, peter Elwelu, Leopald Kyanda participated in the games.
Shortly after the event, the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa who was thechief guest noted that the football match was arranged to foster a lasting friendship between the legislators and the army.
“While the game managed to have many goals in it, the main GOAL was to foster our friendship with the UPDF and all teams scored highly. I thank the UPDF and Parliament for organizing this occasion and look forward to more of such,” said Tayebwa.
The Match was organized on request by MPs Lilian Aber (Kitgum DWP) and Kasambya County MP David Kabanda to mark the Gen Muhoozi birthday.
The main celebrant of the cub, Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba tweeted moments later congratulating the honorable MPs on winning the birthday cup.
“I congratulate Honourable Members of Parliament for winning the #MK48 Birthday Football Cup! Well done Honourables,” Muhoozi tweeted.
The event organizer, Micheal Nuwagira Kaguta, an uncle to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and chairperson of the Team MK project said the event was a huge success and showed many more people have solidarity with Gen Muhoozi.
