Ugandan siblings Esther and Ezekiel Muteesasira have been eliminated from Canada’s Got Talent despite putting up another stunning performance in Tuesday’s semifinals.
The duo showed off their killer vocals with an impressive version of Calum Scott’s “You Are The Reason”, leaving judges Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh, and guest judge Jason Priestley looking noticeably emotional.
However, the duo that won the inaugural East Africa Got Talent (EAGT) in 2019 failed to make it to the finals of the singing competitions after failing to beat their fellow competitors in the vote count decided by the audience.
Julie Muteesasira, the mother of the singing duo revealed the news of the singers’ exit from the competition in a social media post saying; “Thank you for the support and prayers. We didn’t make it to the finals but we are glad we made it to where we at.”
Viewers first fell in love with the 17- and 13-year-old siblings when they nailed a performance of Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown’s “No Air” during the auditions stage of the competitions.
Prior to the track, the teenagers shared how their mom had to leave them for five years after coming out as a gay woman while married to a pastor. Julie explained that it was an “abomination” in Uganda to be a woman of a pastor and yet gay which prompted her to fly to Canada where she has since been reunited with her kids.
The finals of Canada’s Got Talent will be held next week on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. The two-hour live finale show will be broadcast live on CityTV.com
