MITYANA, UGANDA: Passengers aboard a Kampala bound Link bus were on Friday morning robbed at gunpoint by armed robbers in Mityana district along the Kampala-Mubende highway.
The attack happened at around 2am at Bamujugu swamp, Kigalama at the border of Mityana and Kassanda Districts.
According to one of the passengers, the robbers about 10 in number armed with guns and hammers intercepted the bus with an illegal roadblock and asked all the passengers to vacate before taking off with their belongings including mobile phones and unspecified amount of money.
Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, Ms Rachel Kawala confirmed the incident and said the Link bus of Registration number UBG 423G with 65 passengers on board, left Bundibugyo last evening at 7pm and headed to Kampala.
She added that police has since launched investigations to have the robbers arrested and recover the guns used plus the passengers’ lost property.
The incident comes at a time when the bus company is grappling with a chunk of calamities with barely a day after another of their bus suffered a fire outbreak at Wakaliga Traffic Lights, although no injuries were reported.
Last month, the company had its operating license suspended after one of its buses had a tragic accident in FortPortal an incident that has since claimed lives of 23 people
