Former Environment Minister Jesca Eriyo dead

Ms. Jesca Eriyo, the former State Minister for Environment in President Museveni’s government has passed on. She was aged 52.

According to the Minister for Presidency, Ms. Milly Babalanda, Eriyo died at a hospital in Texas, United States where she lost the battle to cancer.

“I regret to announce the death of a member of the Board of USPC, former Minister of State for Environment, and Dep. Sec. Gen. EAC, Hon. Jesca Eriyo, who has died in Texas, USA. Our prayers are with family and friends. MHSRIEP!” Babalanda tweeted on Friday evening.

Born in Adjumani district, Ms. Eriyo was first elected as the district Woman MP in 2001 and was re-elected for the second term in 2006 on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

She served as the state minister for environment from 2006 until 2011 when she lost her parliamentary seat.
