KAMPALA, UGANDA: President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander in Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has promoted and appointed two more Senior UPDF Officers in the latest changes at the army.
The new appointments and promotions were confirmed by the Army and Defence spokesperson, Brig Felix Kulayigye, in a tweet on Monday afternoon.
Notable of the reshuffles made is Col Paul Muhanguzi who has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed the new deputy commander of UPDF’s second division in Mbarara.
He replaces Brig David Mugisha who was recently appointed Special Forces Commander.
In other changes, Col Peter Akankunda has also been promoted to Brigadier General and appointed First Infantry Division – Second in Command.
“The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and UPDF fraternity congratulate the Senior Officers upon their well-deserved promotions and appointments,” Kulayigye concluded.
The last three months have seen significant transfers and changes in command positions of the armed forces.
Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba recently vowed to strengthen the structures of the Land Forces by setting up new administration blocks, enhancing training and decentralizing finance management.
