KAMPALA, UGANDA; There was unpaid drama at Kyebando roundabout in Kampala after a culprit of an accident scene started undressing before officers and the public in a hilarious incident.
The accident happened on Friday, October 28, at about 8:15 am after one Sauda Madada (an activist of the opposition National Unity Platform) driving a Harrier motor vehicle number UBM 436E knocked a boda boda rider identified as Isabirye Ashraf 25 during the heavy traffic Jam at Kyebando roundabout in Kampala.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire in a statement explained that after knocking the boda boda man, Sauda immediately reversed upon seeing a Police vehicle and tried to run away from the scene hence being patrolled by the police car.
“She gained access to Mulimira road via Passover up to Kamwokya, joining the old Kira road to Kisota road where the pursuing patrol vehicle deflated the tyres of the vehicle after continuously refusing to heed the Police call to stop.”
According to Owoyesigyire, police shot at Sauda’s car prompting her to stop and thereafter drama ensued as she started undressing protesting not to be arrested but she was later overpowered and taken to Malcom medical centre for medical attention.
“The vehicle came to a halt while trying to arrest the suspect, she allegedly threw a tantrum and began undressing, prompting the officers to take her to Malcom medical centre Kisasi for medical attention which was the nearest medical facility,” Owoyesigyire explained in a Friday police statement.
“Her vehicle was later towed by the Police and documentation was recovered from her. The Victim was also taken to Mulago hospital where he is currently receiving treatment,” he added.
The KMP deputy police spokesman also clarified Sauda was not shot as some social media posts by NUP bloggers and supporters had alleged but police only shot at her car tyres to prompt her to stop.
“We have also taken note of the social media post alleging that Sauda was shot. This is not true. It should be noted that while pursuing her, we only shot to deflate her tyres because she refused to heed the Police commands of stopping after being involved in an accident.”
Meanwhile, Owoyesigyire said the police team will also retrieve the CCTV footage to help guide in the investigation, but urged the victim who later left the medical facility to report herself to the Police as they investigate the allegations of the accident.
