KAMPALA, UGANDA: President Yoweri Museveni has been awarded an honorary Ph.D. in recognition of his contribution to building peace in Africa.
Museveni has been honored for his role in regional peacebuilding, especially in Somalia, and South Sudan, and for conducting peace talks between the M23 rebels and the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The honorary doctorate was given to him by the Harvest Christian University of Seattle Washington, US, through the International Global Chaplain Conacce.
Harvest Christian University is a religious-based university established in 2010 and normally recognizes individuals who greatly contribute towards keeping peace around the world.
Speaking while handing over the doctorate to the representative, Chief of the International Peace Mission and Ambassador Gen. Carlose Arroba Gaiban said Ugandans have shown exemplary leadership not only in being a peaceful country but extending peace to neighboring countries like Somalia, and DRC Congo among others.
‘’The spirit of wishing other countries to live in harmony makes the university honor President Museveni as an ambassador of peace in the region,“ Arroba said.
Arroba was speaking during the pass out of 57 peacemakers after two weeks of training in Uganda at the Pearl of African Hotel, Kampala on November 5, 2022. A total of 35 Ugandans were part of the 57 peacemakers.
The two weeks of training attracted participants from different countries, including Kenya, DRC, Burundi, Rwanda, Chad, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast.
During the function, six UPDF officers were recognized as judges of peace including Maj. Gen. Wakaalo Kaum, Brig. Tom Ezechel Tumuhairwe, Brig. Gen. Alex Ndyanabo, Lt. Col. Christopher Bamanya, Col. David Bush Turyahabwe, Col. David Karuhanga, and Anne Grace Tino.
In Congo, Bishop Tishingambo, Alex Murusi Nzuki, Jeremie Olaa from Cameroon, and Robert Ngama were also recognized as Judges of peace.
In an interview with New Vision, Maj. Gen. Wakaalo Kaum lauded Conacce Chaplains International for the training.
We also thank the international community, especially Harvest Christian University for being keen to ‘’observe the role of President Museveni in the region,” Wakaalo said.
Wakaalo, who received the honorary certificate on behalf of the President, said as an army, they are still studying the program of Conacce Chaplains and that so far, it has proved to be good.
Frederic Wafula, the President of Conacce Chaplain in Uganda, said the training is part of a United Nation program aimed at skilling peacemakers to be problem solvers, especially during disasters, conflicts, and wars.
