YOUTHFUL FRIDAY: Joseph Finds Solace in Web3.0 Technologies, Entrepreneurship and Medicine

Joseph emphasizes starting as early and taking risks on what one loves. “Being an Entrepreneur, I don’t fear risk-taking.  So I just took the risk and started investing.

At University, a laptop is a need. For Joseph Nsamba, this is an opportunity. He focuses on bringing these services close to students. Using savings from his high school vacation, Nsamba is now a proud entrepreneur.

Having attended O’level at Bukalasa Minor seminary and then A’level at St. Mary’s SS Kitende, the Nsamba, the youthful Youtuber is currently doing a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery at Makerere University.

Joseph Nsamba, born in Nakawanga village in Lwengo district is the firstborn in a family of six.

The inspiration for being a YouTuber is a UK retired doctor, Ali Abdaal, who is now a full-time YouTuber

Joseph is currently doing a number of side hustles, YouTubing and selling computers and related accessories. More so, exploring web3.0 related technologies as inspired by his friend, Karlos Samuel. Samuel gave him an idea about blockchain, sometime in 2021 after making a loss in one of his ventures.

He emphasizes starting as early and taking risks on what one loves. “Being an Entrepreneur, I don’t fear risk-taking.  So I just took the risk and started investing. However, I spent a number of months learning about the business of computers. So after acquiring some knowledge, I started and learnt other things along the way,” says Joseph.

“I used my vacation savings which totalled 2.5M by then. Orders a few devices from Dubai and started. The rest is history.”

His brand name JNJ is simply a reflection of his name Josh Nsamba Joseph. To him, it didn’t need overthinking.  “ Through marketing. Personal marketing and marketing with my friends got my products out on market. “

“First way of marketing is me myself. I introduce myself and what I do every time I meet a new person.  I also use social media and friends. Mostly advertise using adverts on social media. Well, in solopreneur businesses, the business owner is the business itself. So personalized marketing is key.”

With plans of easing technology to transform the health sector in Uganda by making health services more accessible to people, Joseph, being a medical student, has faced many challenges. “My biggest challenge is ‘the unfair advantage’ having to do all this together with medical school. Yet I need to progress in all.  You need these additional streams of income but also need medicine as well. But since we already have what it takes to succeed, I keep the resilience,” Joseph narrates.

On asking whether he has any achievements from his business. He says, ”Yes, very many. Especially skills with handling customers. Getting new links to various people. Well, also garnered extra cash that I invested buying gadgets for my YouTube channel. I usually teach my friends who come to consult me.  I share my story, and how they can manoeuvre through as well. I presume that I’m an inspiration to some people, though I’m not so sure. Since no one has told me this directly.”

He advises the youth not to compete with anyone but to strive to be better. “As a youth, invest so much in learning skills. These skills you collect when you’re still a teenager deliver a compound interest over time. Better of spending 1000$ investing in personal skills, than keeping it in the bank.” Joseph says.

He calls on the government to actively embrace new technologies. “We are still behind in catching up with the new trends in technology such as AI, blockchain technology, Virtual reality, 5G and the slow internet speeds in Uganda.”
