Manchester United fan held for killing Arsenal colleague over match result

The police in Adjumani district are holding a Manchester United supporter in connection to the gruesome murder of an ardent Arsenal Football club fan following the Premier League match between the two clubs on Sunday evening.

ADJUMNI, UGANDA: The police in Adjumani district are holding a Manchester United supporter in connection to the gruesome murder of an ardent Arsenal Football club fan following the Premier League match between the two clubs on Sunday evening.

Ukuyo Richard a well-recognized Arsenal fan who is also farm manager of Adjumani East MP Mamawi James was embroiled in a heated argument with the suspect Sebastian Yuventa a diehard fan of Manchester United football club before a fight ensued between the pair with the latter hacking the colleague to death in the aftermath .

Police today (Wednesday, January 25, 2023) confirmed the incident and said the suspect, a Munyankole charcoal dealer, a resident of Aliwara village, Mungula parish in Itirikwa subcounty is now under custody over murder charges at Adjumani District Police Station.

“The case has been registered under police Special Diary 04/23/01/2023 at Nyabila police post and investigations into the matter is ongoing,” a police statement read on Wednesday afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses, a brawl ensured between the two football fans at around 11:00pm when Yuventa claimed that if it was not for poor match officiation Manchester United would not have lost but the deceased insisted the winning goal that was scored by Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah was a genuine goal.

The temperamental cattle keeper then picked a club a delivered a nasty and cruel blow that landed on the backside of the head, he collapsed and breathed his last on his way to Mungula health center IV.

The body of the deceased was yesterday transported to his ancestral home in Terego district for burial according to Itirikwa subcounty chairman Iranya Jesus who called calm and restraint against the use of foul language during football matches.

Close family sources of Hon Mamawi James divulged that the relatives of the deceased have demanded for shs 20M as compensation.

Arsenal football club currently leads the English Premier League table with 50 points while Manchester United sit fourth position with 39 points.

The development comes in the aftermath after 8 Arsenal fans were Monday arrested in Jinja City after storming the streets to celebrate their club’s Victory following the 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
