KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Police at Kabalagala Division are actively investigating a case of suspected kidnap after an identified person last weekend disappeared with a four-year-old boy in Makindye, a Kampala suburb.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson says the incident took place on Friday at around 3 pm in the Okiring zone of Kibuli Parish, Makindye division.

He identified the missing child as Hannington Odoi who is said to have been lured and driven off by the suspect and has not surfaced to date.

According to Owoyesigyire, the boy’s father reported the disappearance to Kabalagala Police station upon learning that his son had disappeared with a stranger, although preliminary investigations show the boy had gone with his friend Mukisa Sowedi to a nearby shop to buy a chapati.

“They allegedly encountered a man dressed in a black T-shirt who promised to give them a ride on his bicycle. The man then led them to a certain area in Okiring zone, where he instructed Sowedi to go back home, leaving Daniel with him. Later, when Sowedi returned to the area with Daniel’s brother, Wilson, both Daniel and the man were nowhere to be seen,” Owoyesogire said in a statement.

He added that police quickly visited the scene and processed it and are still hunting for the suspect and the victim.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the disappearance. CCTV footage of the two juveniles passing by the area has been viewed,” he concluded.
