LIRA, UGANDA: The Minister for Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero on Thursday officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the establishment of a shs 3.9 billion laboratory at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

Dr Aceng was accompanied by Junior Health Minister Hon Anifa Kawoya, the Oyam woman MP Santa Alum Ogwang and MP Susan Abeja among other dignitaries from the Ministry of Health who turned up for the event.

Many people around Lira city appreciated the minister for such a great initiative among other things she contributed as far as the development of Lira city is concerned.

While addressing residents who turned up for the ceremony, Dr Aceng said 700 million pieces of equipment will be bought and put inside the laboratory.

She said this laboratory in Uganda is only in four places: Mbale, Mbarara, Arua and Lira.

Meanwhile on the other hand Aceng rallied her voters to be in good terms with medical workers at the hospital but not to insult them when accessing medical services in the health facilities

‘’The medical workers are for us and the hospital is very important for all of us and therefore take care of your life as glass,” said Aceng.

She however distanced herself from the issue of the hospital land eviction saying other people are misquoting her and telling lies that she wants the land.

The truth is some people took the hospital to the high court and court of appeal and the court ruling was made in favor of the hospital.

According to Aceng, the hospital was built in the 1960s during Obote Milton’s regime and what would she want at this time with the hospital again and again?

“By the way, it is clear to me that I am not fighting for hospital land but I am fighting for the development of Lira city,” added Minister Aceng.

During his address, the RCC Lira city Mr Lawrence Egole warned that those squatters who are still a little bit stubborn should start exiting slowly before it is too late.

He said the minister should cancel the call in case anyone in the area where the land in question is situated call her and said security is evicting people from the hospital land.

The Otuke woman MP Hon. Abeja Susan called upon the people of Lira City to allow Hon minister Aceng Jane to go unopposed in 2026 because Minister Jane Aceng is beneficial not only for the people of Lango but also for the whole country and the whole world.

Minister Anifa Kawoya urged the people of Lira to utilize the service offered by Minister Jane Aceng because she is being awarded monthly by different countries and organizations worldwide in the health sector

I am not campaigning but giving testimony that she is everywhere in the UN, WHO, and CFDU and she is national in her contribution to fighting Corona among others.
