LIRA: Security guard arrested for shooting S.4 student

Okema said Lira police responded to the crime scene, picked up the victim and rushed him to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where he is currently getting treatment.

LIRA, UGANDA: Police in Lira have arrested a guard attached to a local security group for allegedly shooting and injuring a Senior Four student of Lira Town College in Lira City.

According to North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Jimmy Okema, the suspect was escorting his girlfriend, a student in Lira Town, when he met Morris Odongo (victim) and other students who reportedly attacked him prompting the guard to shoot and injure Odongo in the right leg.

Okema said Lira police responded to the crime scene, picked up the victim and rushed him to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where he is currently getting treatment.

He added that the suspect together was arrested together with his girlfriend from their rented room in Tekulu Cell in Lira City.

Police also managed to recover one gun cartridge, and took blood samples of the victim, which were submitted for forensic analysis as investigations into the attempted murder case continue.

“We recovered the gun from the suspect and it was also submitted to ballistic experts for analysis. The suspect is in custody on holding charge of attempted murder,” Okema said.

By Thursday morning, the administration of Lira Town College was yet to make a statement on the incident.
