IGANGA: Shameless ‘Uncle’ defiles one-year-old niece, arrested

Lubega Muzamiru, one of the first responders told DailyExpress on Friday that they got information on Thursday concerning a child who was taken to a clinic in Kiwani trading centre with signs indicating that she was defiled.

IGANGA, UGANDA: Police in Iganga district have arrested an uncle on allegations of defiling his niece aged one and a half-years old.

The suspect identified as Batuwa Sam is a resident of Kiwani village, Nawandala sub-county in Iganga district.

Lubega Muzamiru, one of the first responders told DailyExpress on Friday that they got information on Thursday concerning a child who was taken to a clinic in Kiwani trading centre with signs indicating that she was defiled.

“It was yesterday morning and we got information that there was a child who had been brought to a clinic and people were suspecting that she had been defiled,” Mr Lubega said.

The victim’s mother Ms Namudira Juliet says she left the victim and another child in the house with their grandmother, who also left them inside the house, only to see the suspect returning with the child later which made them suspicious that he had defiled the child.

Daily Express has learnt that the child’s mother has mental issues which at times tamper with her normality. This publication also learnt that the home of the victim’s parents is situated close to smoking cliques of youths in the trading centre.

After getting preliminary reports from locals, police in Kiwani arrested Batuwa Sam from a cinema hall in Kiwani trading centre before forwarding him to Iganga Central police station.

Police reportedly took the child for a check-up and it was confirmed that the baby was defiled and was forwarded to Hovic Medical Centre in Iganga town to receive further treatment.

Busoga East police spokesperson SP Diana Nandawula confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said he will first be subjected to blood testing and a mental check-up to help in police investigations.

“The suspected defiler who is also the victim’s uncle (Batuwa Sam) was arrested and will be subjected to blood testing and mental check-up,” SP Nandawula said.

Ms Nandawula said the charge of aggregated defilement was preferred against the suspect as police concludes investigations into the case.
