UK sanctions against Speaker Among are so redundant, reading between the lines

By AKAMPA Tanbull

A few days ago the United Kingdom Government issued a statement announcing sanctions against the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda, Rt Hon Anita Among and other former Ministers Hon Gitutu and Hon Nandutu, this statement was published on their official website.

The lies in this statement claim that Speaker Anita Among is being prosecuted in courts of Law over the Karamoja Iron sheets that were being distributed by Office of the Prime Minister and therefore this was an act of Corruption because she personally benefited from these iron sheets.

It is important to note that Speaker Among has never been charged in any courts of Law on corruption-related cases not just as a Speaker of Parliament but in her entire life and therefore claims by the UK Govt that she is on any charge sheet relating to corruption is very unfortunate and redundant!

It should also be noted that the iron sheets that had been sent to her constituency were equally used to roof public Schools same as those that she returned to Office of the Prime Minister(OPM) therefore she never used any of these iron sheets for private or personal benefit.

If the cause which prompted the sanctions is theft of iron sheets, how come other Ministers who took iron sheets are not sanctioned?

Could it be so true that Rt Hon Anita Among is targeted because of her resolute fight against homosexuality? In any case Speaker Among returned all the iron sheets of her own volition.

Could it be that the UK Gov is aiming at putting pressure on Speaker Among perhaps to influence her position/stance on the Anti-Homosexuality Act? Is this still possible?

Can these sanctions change the Anti homosexuality law which has even been confirmed by the Constitutional Court that it doesn’t cause any violence or threaten human life but aims at protecting the values, norms of all Ugandans and Uganda as a nation.

Reading between the line, is that the lies behind why UK gov put sanctions on Rt Hon Anita Among a more than the real truth beyond corruption!

Speaker Among not going to United Kingdom will equally save tax payers’ money, she will have more time to travel across Uganda and to Bukedea so often to check on her constituents, her farms and private businesses which is a plus for her people and Ugandans.

Infact, I want to implore the UK gov to put sanctions on Al Ministers that were involved in Karamoja Iron sheets Bonanza and other corruption related cases, this will save us more money as a Country, alot of Ugandan shilling is spent in exchange for UK Pounds to buy Visa and staying in UK engagements which do not help ordinary Ugandans like me.

Among’s stand against homosexuality and to defend the values and sovereignty of Ugandans will not and never be compromised!

She has proven to be a bold and courageous Woman who will stand her grounds to defend what she believes is right for her Country Uganda and I believe that so many Ugandans out there stand by her side.

Uganda’s sovereignty must be respected by UK gov and let Ugandans and their leaders decide on what is best for their people.
