KABALE, UGANDA: Traffic and businesses on Wednesday afternoon paralyzed as the presidential advisor on special operations Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba made his grand entry through Kabale town ahead of the Katuna-Gatuna border reopening, Thanksgiving and Rukundo Egumeho concert.
Gen Keinerugaba who is also the first son arrived in Kabale town at around 01:30 pm in an army jet and he was welcomed by a section of local leaders from Kigezi Subregion led by the Kabale district chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija.
The convoy started from Kabale golf course and passed through Kabale town. Our reporter who moved in a convey observed that many vehicles and bodabodas were made to stand for between 30 to 35 minutes.
Businesses were also seen closed and owners standing along the streets to watch the convoy.
The former UPDF Land Forces Commander was welcomed by Nelson Nshangabasheija, the chairperson of the organizing committee alongside area leaders and thousands of fans.
Nshangabasheija said Kigezi “is eternally grateful to Muhoozi for talking to Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame to reopen the border.”
Most of the hotel rooms in Kabale were by Wednesday afternoon booked to full capacity by hundreds of fans who travelled from Kampala and many parts of western Uganda to attend the music concert.
The concert, slated for April 19, 2023, is aimed at celebrating the restoration of bilateral ties between Uganda and Rwanda and the reopening of the common border.
Muhoozi is expected to visit Bwama HCIII to launch the ambulance boot that was last week supplied by the Ministry of Health.
He will also officiate a football match between Rwanda Select and Kigezi Select at Kabale municipal stadium this afternoon.
Gen Keinerugaba who is also the first son is tomorrow morning expected to visit the Katuna border to launch the construction of what he called the Museveni-Kagame market before he returns back to be the guest of honour at the Thanksgiving ceremony at Kigezi High School primary ground in Kabale municipality.
