PDM pilot project a success in Gulu, says Deputy RDC

GULU, UGANDA: Gulu Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mr Cosmas James Okidi has revealed that there are a lot of take-home messages from the Parish Development Model (PDM) projects among the beneficiaries in the district.

Mr Okidi while visiting the homes of the first beneficiaries for PDM pilot projects launched last year in December said he has witnessed a tremendous success being registered across different enterprises in Gulu district.

Among some of the homes he visited during a Thursday tour included a Piggery enterprise belonging to Aciro Pamela a resident of the-ki bur village who is progressing at a promising rate.

Second on his tour lists, of monitoring the PDM beneficiaries project was one, Adoch Beatrice (Chicken Croilers enterprise) same village, Atto Alice(Piggery) of Anywang Kal village, Alal Lilly and Okwera Justine Patrick (Piggery) of Arut village, all from Laban parish, Paicho sub-county, Gulu district.

The beneficiaries visited expressed commitment towards the projects, as most of them have already constructed structures for their enterprises although they have not yet started reaping from the projects and hence there is hope that very soon things will be better, especially Chicken projects.

Most Of them especially Aciro Pamela applauded His Excellency, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for Visionary leadership and promised never to let him down.

“We need continuous guidance and training of you beneficiaries so that we don’t go wrong in the PDM implementation and then fighting poverty at household income level and will discuss this with our support staff (Extension workers),” said RDC Okidi.

“I will continue visiting you for any assistance,” he told the beneficiaries.

Mr Okidi also warned the members against diverting the PDM money for other things, other than the popular or targeted enterprises and urged them to always follow all the guidance, especially on treatment for some of the animals and birds.

As the office of the President in Gulu district, Mr Okidi pledged total support for the people who are engaged already in household income.

The support included advising and visiting the project site frequently and above all their office is open 24/7 to receive issues as regards to PDM implementation in the district of Gulu.

“The government under the leadership of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is very passionate and committed really always to seeing that 39% of those in subsistence farming upgrade into a money economy, and we need to have in mind that we really embrace it,” Mr Okidi alluded to PDM beneficiaries.

The PDM pilot projects were launched last year in December (2022) in the two Sub counties of Bungatira and Paicho sub-county in two parishes of Atyaba in Bungatira and Laban in Paicho sub-county respectively.
