RUBANDA, UGANDA: Police in Rubanda are investigating a fatal accident which claimed the life of 32-year-old Ivan Tugumisirize, a teacher at one of the schools in the Western district on Monday afternoon.
According to Mr Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, the accident involved two motorcycles that were coming from different directions and collided head-on in a sharp corner along the same road.
“It is alleged that two Bajaj motorcycles, whose details were not yet identified as they were taken away from the scene before police arrived, were from opposite directions along Hamuhambo- Bushura marram road, met in a sharp corner and collided head-on thereby injuring the occupants seriously,” police explained.
Maate added that Tugumisirza who was a resident of Kabugu Village, Bushura Ward, Hamuhambo Town Council died while he was being rushed to Kabale Hospital by good Samaritans. He succumbed to the injuries sustained during the accident.
According to police, other victims involved in the accident had not yet been identified and their whereabouts were unknown by press time.
“Tugumisiriza’s body was conveyed to Kabale Hospital from where a postmortem was done. His body was later handed over to the relatives for burial,” Maate told DailyExpress on Monday.
In a related development, 35-year-old Alex Turinawe a resident of Kakirago cell 1 died Monday after a fatal accident that happened along Rukungiri-Kanungu Road at Kikirago I cell, Bugangari Sub County of Rukungiri District.
ASP Maate said that the accident involved a motor vehicle registration number UBJ 090F belonging to Chico Road Construction Company that was carrying Road materials from the site heading to Rukungiri town whereas the deceased was sloping down the hill intending to cross the road.
Maate said that they are yet to identify the riders whose motorcycles were involved in an accident along the Bushura-Hamuhambo road and the driver of a truck belonging to Chico Road Construction Company which claimed the life of Turinawe.
He added that the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their relatives for decent burials after postmortems were done at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and Rwakabengo Hospital.
