NRM primaries for Oyam North By-Election set for Saturday

The nine candidates known to the NRM office Oyam include; Ms Queen Dorothy Amolo, ex-Ambassador Moto Julius Peter, Late Engola’s son; Samuel Engola Okello, Willy Omodo Omodo, Obangakene Augustine, Billie Otto, Adonyo Tonny, Okello Alfred Obaro, among others.

OYAM, UGANDA: The NRM primaries for the Oyam North flag bearer in the forthcoming parliamentary bye-election are scheduled for Saturday, 17th June 2023, the party Electoral Commission has announced.

According to the Oyam District NRM chairperson, Mr Jasper Onena, they have received information from the NRM Electoral Commission office in Kampala that the election will take place this weekend on Saturday at the District Headquarters.

Speaking to DailyExpress in a telephone interview on Tuesday evening, Mr Onena confirmed that the race for the party flag is all set with nine candidates remaining after the last-minute withdrawal of Bala Daniel while another candidate Arinatiwe Henry also remains uncertain on his stand in the race.

‘’Only nine candidates are known by my office so far as Bala Daniel has pulled out of the race and there is not yet any clear identity of one of the aspirants called Arinaitwe Henry,” Mr Onena told DailyExpress.

He added; “Arinaitwe has not appeared. We are still green about him and so far we still only officially know of only nine candidates.”

The nine candidates known to the NRM office Oyam include; Ms Queen Dorothy Amolo, ex-Ambassador Moto Julius Peter, Late Engola’s son; Samuel Engola Okello, Willy Omodo Omodo, Obangakene Augustine, Billie Otto, Adonyo Tonny, Okello Alfred Obaro, and Alinaitwe Henry.

Speaking to this reporter in a one-on-one interview after the meeting, one of the aspirants, Mr Moto Julius Peter said he is determined to win the NRM Primary election with over 65 per cent as of Monday 12, June 2023.

Moto was congratulated by many delegates as a real NRM cadre with a good track record and some of them are determined that Moto they are determined that he may win the NRM Primary election with over even 50 %.

Meanwhile, Queen Dorothy Amolo who is the only woman in the NRM race was praised by her personal assistant, Betty Umhar as an iron lady who may even win up to 59 per cent of the delegates’ votes for being bold, exposed, eloquent and an NRM disciplined party member.

A Female PWD in Abok village who preferred not to be named in this publication said the heated race is among only four aspirants being, Queen Amolo, Moto Julius, Obangakene Augustine and the late Minister’s son; Samuel Okello Engola.
