Police arrest errant driver for attempting to overrun traffic officer

In an incident which was captured in a video circulating on social media, the victim officer who was on duty attempting to stop the vehicle tried stopping the driver identified but the latter refused to comply with the directives and chose to endanger the life of the police officer.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Police at CPS in Kampala have arrested the driver of a motor vehicle, registration number UAZ 515C who made a deliberate attempt to run over a traffic officer on Kampala Road.

In an incident which was captured in a video circulating on social media, the victim officer who was on duty attempting to stop the vehicle tried stopping the driver identified but the latter refused to comply with the directives and chose to endanger the life of the police officer.

Patrick Onyango, the KMP Spokesperson identified the errant driver as Mukwaya Issac who attempted to deceive the authorities by pretending to be sick when brought in for interrogation.

“…However, upon examination, it was determined that he was in normal health and had intentionally inserted the cannula into his hand,” said Onyango.

The officer, who narrowly escaped being struck by the vehicle, is Katongole Josam.

Onyango confirmed the arrest of Mukwaya who is currently being detained at CPS Kampala facing three charges of; Violating traffic lights, Reckless driving, and Attempted murder.

“We urge the general public, particularly motorists, to adhere to the instructions provided by our traffic officers,” Onyango concluded.
