Preliminary information gathered indicated that the suspect last week carried her daughter to the home of her (child’s) father, who lives in a separate home after the couple separated.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, “When Nakyanzi reached the home, she realised that there was another woman. But instead of asking for the money, she engaged the father of the girl in a fight.”

“During the fight, the child fell down and was picked up by a neighbour, but the mother grabbed the baby who was still alive and swore to return with a dead body,” said Enanga during the weekly security press briefing at the Uganda Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Monday

According to Enanga, the mother returned after about 30 minutes with the lifeless body to the child’s father, which prompted the Police to arrest her.

In the same vein, police have arrested another mother in Gulu over the attempted murder of her son.

Lilian Akumu, 23, a resident of Pece, was arrested for the attempted murder of her son, Stephen Okumu.

“She was angered by the son after which she picked a knife and inflicted several injuries to the head of the son,” Enanga told journalists earlier today.

“Onlookers managed to rush the child to the hospital after which the mother was arrested,” he said.
