Mother arrested over murder of one-year-old baby

Nakyanzi, a resident of Namusera, was arrested after her daughter, Miracle Tumusiime, mysteriously passed on over the weekend.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police in Wakiso district have arrested one Sarah Nakyanzi a mother of one, over the alleged murder of her one-year-old daughter following an altercation with the father of the child.

Nakyanzi, a resident of Namusera, was arrested after her daughter, Miracle Tumusiime, mysteriously passed on over the weekend.

Preliminary information gathered indicated that the suspect last week carried her daughter to the home of her (child’s) father, who lives in a separate home after the couple separated.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, “When Nakyanzi reached the home, she realised that there was another woman. But instead of asking for the money, she engaged the father of the girl in a fight.”

“During the fight, the child fell down and was picked up by a neighbour, but the mother grabbed the baby who was still alive and swore to return with a dead body,” said Enanga during the weekly security press briefing at the Uganda Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Monday

According to Enanga, the mother returned after about 30 minutes with the lifeless body to the child’s father, which prompted the Police to arrest her.
