KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced today (June 30) as the last day of the first phase of late registration for 2023 candidates.

This follows an extension of the normal registration period from May 31st to June 7.

According to UNEB, candidates for the 2023 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams that will be registered by midnight tonight will pay a surcharge of 50% while Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) candidates will pay a surcharge of 100% over and above the original registration fees.

Ms Jennifer Kalule Musumba, the Spokesperson of UNEB Thursday revealed that the final and last phase of late registration will start on July 1-30, for which those who will register in the last phase will pay a surcharge of 100% at all levels.

She advised Heads of Centres and parents to try and register any remaining potential candidates and ensure that no learner is left out.

“After July 31st, there will be no more registration of candidates. We also wish to remind schools that they have until July 31, to make amendments to the registration data without any surcharge. Heads of Centres are, therefore, encouraged to scrutinize the uploaded data, and where there is a need for amendments, let them contact UNEB to effect the changes,” Ms Kalule noted.

Ms Kalule also revealed that at the beginning of August, UNEB shall provide an SMS option on mobile telephone handsets for candidates and parents to confirm the registration status of the learners.

To this effect, one will be required to know the full index number of the candidate by typing Reg, Space, Index No. and sending to 6600. At that time, the schools shall also display the candidate registers.

UNEB urged teachers to ensure that effective teaching and learning take place to prepare candidates and avoid the temptation to indulge in examination malpractice.
