LIRA, UGANDA: It was a surprise appearance in the eyes of thousands of voters who never expected to witness the four bigwigs historical in the history of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party sitting together in the same tent.
This was witnessed on Friday, July 21, during the burial of Former MP Angiro Gutomoi Charles Abac-Acon at his ancestral home in Lira district where all the big shots in FDC turned up except Kira Municipality MP Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.
Among them were the following; Col (rtd) Kizza Besigye (a four-time Presidental candidate) and founding party president, Rtd Gen Mugisha Muntu (also a former FDC former Presidental candidate), the current president Mr Patrick Amuriat Oboi (POA) and the Secretary-General Mr Nandala Mafabi among others.
Much as there is party bickering at the FDC leadership, thousands of mourners were shocked to see the three seated together. They (the mourners) left with a very big question mark wondering who is still having weight to the FDC supporters in the Lango Sub-region among FDC historicals.
Saddam Ogwang, one of the FDC supporters in Lira city at Omodo market area said as FDC members most of them want to see Besigye as the party president to stop the tensions in their party.
He said even the FDC election that is soon to be conducted by the party members at the grass root level can not run without Kizza Besigye.
“If the FDC party want to stop petty conflict, they should not leave out Kizza Besigye, Odonga Otto, Hon Cecilia Atim Ogwal of Dokolo among others,” said Ogwang, adding that; “When Odonga Otto Samuel the former Aruu county MP stood up to speak, many were thrown into happiness as he was always a known figure in the FDC cycle”
M Charles Angiro Gutomoi died in a road accident last week and was buried on Friday at his ancestral home inAromo sub-county.
The burial attracted other bigwigs from the ruling cabinet including Government Chief Whip Hon Denis Hamson Obua, Hon Dr Jane Ruth Aceng the Minister of Health, and Minister Betty Amongi among others who were also appreciated for their elaborate speech on government commitment to delivering good services for the people of Lango Sub-region.
