IGANGA, UGANDA: In preparation for celebrations to mark 20 years of existence in the academic field, Ibun Baz Girls Secondary School on Thursday cleaned Iganga General Hospital in Iganga District before donating a number of items to patients and later serving them lunch.

Led by the school headteacher Ms Babirye Sitina, the students swept the facility compound and mopped various places before proceeding to donate items like soap, sugar and sanitary pads among others to the patients.

Ms Babirye says they have decided to render community service to the health facility as a way of appreciating the public for unceasingly supporting them for the previous 20 years in the academic field, promising to continue serving the community better.

“We have made 20 years of existence this year and we decided to render community service by cleaning the hospital, giving out items like soap, sugar and sanitary pads to mothers in the facility and we concluded the exercise by sharing lunch with them,” Ms Babirye said.

“We thank our parents and well-wishers for always supporting us and we promise to continue serving you better,” she added.

However, some of the beneficiaries commended the school for supporting them with basic items saying that it takes a genuine and lenient heart to support people in need.

“I want to appreciate the school for giving us these basic items in life. I have got one and a half bars of soap, sugar and sanitary pads, there is nothing I can do to express my appreciation but may God rewards them with the desires of their hearts,” Ms Namugaya Shamina, a patient in the female ward said.

Ms. Namuganza Rose from the maternity ward said she had limited basic items like soap and sugar saying the donation helped her to get enough necessities by saving her from buying items which she said are sold expensively at the facility.

Meanwhile, the hospital administration was grateful for the exercise done by Ibun Baz Girls secondary school. The hospital administrator Mr. Ramathan Mugolofa Gaboli appreciated them for cleaning various areas in the hospital and giving out basics of life to patients before serving them with lunch, ahead of celebrating their 20 years of existence.
