Teacher sneaks into girls’ dormitory, defiles 17-year-old student

BUDAKA, UGANDA: The Police in North Bukedi Region have arrested a teacher at Iki-Iki Secondary School in Budaka District on allegations of sneaking into a girl’s dormitory and defiling a 17-year-old student.

The Regional police spokeswoman SP Immaculate Alaso identified the victim as a resident of Katya village, Iki-Iki Parish who is a boarding student at the above school.

According to SP Alaso, the victim narrated to the school matron that on the fateful day of July 22, the teacher-suspect sneaked into the dormitory where she was sleeping as she wasn’t feeling well, and forced himself on her.

“The teacher is reported to have started sweet-talking the girl while advancing his love interest. He then started touching her, pulled her skirt towards her stomach and molested her,” the regional police spokesperson said.

Ms Alaso stressed that upon conducting a medical examination on the victim, it was confirmed that she was sexually abused leading to the apprehension of the suspect who is currently held at Budaka Police Station as investigation into the matter continues.

She decried the rate at which the region has registered a vast increase in the number of defilement cases as well as child marriages recently but vowed to continue arresting those involved in sabotaging the future of the young children.

“This unprecedented wave should not be left to continue. We shall arrest the parents and defilers for sabotaging children’s futures. This is totally unacceptable and community policing is ongoing to explain the dangers of defilement,” she said.

The District Education officer [DEO], Mr Paul Higenyi, strongly condemned the teacher’s unethical behaviours saying: “We have talked and laboured to explain to teachers to desist from such acts that undermine the profession. Let the law take its course to serve as an example to the rest of the teachers.”
