Jinja Police hails outgoing RPC for committed services

JINJA, UGANDA: Police in Kiira Region have commended the outgoing Regional Police Commander (RPC) ACP Richard Okullu for his support, cooperation and coordination with the entire regional force during his term in office.

ACP Okullu, who took over the office of the RPC Kiira region on March 31, 2022, was on Friday handing over the office to his successor SSP Rogers Sseguya at the regional headquarters, as he proceeds for a senior command course in August at Bwebajja Senior Command and Staff College.

Kiira regional police spokesperson SP James Mubi said that ACP Okullu has managed to push for a number of achievements during his regime, among others reducing cases of murder and aggravated robbery which has boosted the business industry plus dealing with theft in Jinja.

“Under the term of ACP Okullu, murder and aggravated robbery have significantly reduced leading to serious boost in the business industry. He has dealt with the theft of motor vehicle number plates especially stealing from the Indian community where the ring leader Simon Olowo was arrested and prosecuted and now serving 14 years imprisonment at Kirinya prisons,” Mubi said.

He has reportedly united the force in the region with other institutions, stakeholders and individuals like the boda boda industry, politicians, UPDF, prisons, religious leaders, Factory owners and managers, and hotel and lodge managers in the region.

“He has at all times exhibited high levels of professionalism and ethical standards in the execution of his duties and he has been at the forefront of fighting corruption tendencies in the region,” SP Mubi added.

However, ACP Richard Okullu thanked all officers in the region for according to him the best support, coordination and cooperation during his term in office. He also appreciated the appointing authority for identifying SSP Rogers Sseguya as his successor and wished him the very best in the execution of his duties.

He said the incoming RPC SSP Rogers Sseguya has where to start and all officers have promised him maximum cooperation and support. “I thank all officers and stakeholders for working harmoniously with me, SSP Sseguya is a thorough commander and nothing will fail him,” he said.

SSP Sseguya commended the leadership of Kiira regional police for giving him a warm welcome and pledged to work with all stakeholders in executing his duties while following the legacy of his predecessor.

He thanked ACP Okullu for handling the region in a professional manner especially when he led the security team to accord security to Jinja diocese pilgrims who saw a cool and secure environment through the city to Namugongo.

Present at the function were; the incoming deputy RPC SSP David Katunda, Region Human Resource SSP Andrew Muzira, Regional CID SSP Frank Ntankovu, the three DPCs of CPS Jinja central, CPS Buwenge, CPS Kakira, among other senior officers.
