MP Vincent Obong sponsors 100 students in Lira City West Division

LIRA, UGANDA: Lira City West MP Vincent Shedrick Obong is at the moment promoting the level of education in his constituency by personally sponsoring some of the disadvantaged students.

This was disclosed by MP Obong on Friday while addressing hundreds of people who turned up at the Mayor’s Garden in Lira City to witness the start-up tools handed over to the 200 tailoring and saloon beneficiaries by Hon Amongi Betty, the minister of Gender, Labour and social development on Friday.

Obong who also owns a popular school at Amuca in Lira City West Division implored people in the city to value education as priority number one alongside another form of development.

He urged parents and guardians in the city whose children are being sponsored to Monitor them closely because education is the best wealth a person can afford to give to a child.

Obong commended Minister Amongi for doing a wander full job in Lira city by giving out start-up tools to the girls who completed training in various skills /courses since they can now live on their own based on the skills they obtained from the opportunity of sponsorship and training.

MP Vincent said as people who are empowered by Hon Minister Betty Amongi, and as an MP from Lira City, he is sure the city will get to the next level of development and he promised to work hand in hand with her to develop Lira City.

He assured the public that as UPC MPs in the Lango sub-region, their main target is preaching the gospel of sharing an opportunity, unity and educating the needy students among the people of Lango without discrimination of party or colour.

Obong in a very short period of time of less than two years has bought an ambulance, built up a powerful secondary school and now sponsoring over 100 students from his own sources as an MP.

The event on Friday was attended by UPC Party President Hon Jimmy Michael Akena (Lira City East MP), Minister Betty Amongi, the Oyam South MP, the RCC Lira City Mr Egole Lawrence, Hon Auma Linda Agnes woman MP Lira district, MP Omara Paul of Otuke, Mayor Lira City East Okello Ayoo, Mayor Lira City, Atul Sam, among others.
