Parental Care Bushenyi to represent western Uganda at National Spelling Bee Competition

BUSHENYI, UGANDA: Parental Care Primary and Nursery School in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality is set to represent western Uganda in the forthcoming National spelling bee competition after beating hundreds of schools in the regional championship.

Parental Care was declared along with St. Mukasa Preparatory School Mushanga as the best schools in western Uganda during a one-day spelling bee competition organized by Uganda Spelling Bee Enjuba in Bushenyi District.

The first three best pupils in the competition included; Emmanuel Tindyebwa and Shasha Asiimwe from Parental Care while Thadious Mutiima was picked from St Mukasa Preparatory School Mushanga. The trio scooped trophies and medals on the evening.

According to the organizers, such competitions help in improving literacy, academic excellence and sustain a reading culture but also develop self-esteem, confidence and interpersonal skills.

The school’s Deputy Head Master, Mr. Desmond Tayebwa who teaches spelling said for the past five years, Parental Care has been winning the competition which he accords to hard work and a vibrant reading culture.

”Our school has been winning several competitions and now focusing on the national spelling bee championship that will be held in October this year in Kampala,” said Mr Tayebwa adding; ”Our mighty school is among the top best in Uganda because of our hard work. Our pupils are highly succeeding because we have instilled a vibrant reading culture in them. I, therefore, request our parents to trust us with more children, we help shape a better future for them.’

It’s worth noting that last year Parental Care Bushenyi came second in Africa during the spelling bee competition that was held in Malawi’s second-largest city, Blantyre.

The latest victory comes just a few months after the school in May this year won the 2023 National Junior Speech and Debate Competition 2023 organized at Parliament in Kampala.

The Bushenyi-based school is not only good at public speaking but also known popularly for its academic prowess demonstrated by its highest number of first grades over the last couple of years.
