Tragedy as truck carrying 100 passengers to wedding overturns

The lorry ferrying close to 100 passengers veered off the road resulting in the terrible incident.

The Police in Marsabit County Saturday registered a tragic accident along a lorry ferrying close to 100 people to a wedding ferried off the Kambinye-Kargi Road killing three people on the spot while 60 others sustained serious injuries.

“The patients are being attended to by the medical staff at the facility and the majority are in stable condition. The rescue efforts are being led by County Secretary Hussein Sasura and CEC Health Services Grace Galmo Boru, alongside other senior government officials,” read part of the statement by the Marsabit County Government.

One of the MCA’s from the area, Kargi Ward MCA Chris Ogom told journalists that some of those involved in the accident had fractures, while others might need to be transferred to other hospitals due to the urgency of receiving sufficient blood to save their lives.

This comes two days after a one-year-old child was crushed to death at a parking lot in the Dandora area, Nairobi. Police said the driver of a lorry was reversing the motor vehicle from the parking lot.

The child was wandering behind the lorry and the driver did not know when he arrived to start it and leave. According to the police, the lorry knocked and crushed the boy in the Wednesday incident.

Neighbours who witnessed the tragic incident screamed for the attention of the driver in vain. The incident happened as the driver left for work at about 8 am, police said.
