JINJA, UGANDA: Police in Jinja City have pledged to make serious operations in the area against sexual harassment which is becoming rampant, especially in Kainogoga Mafubira, the northern division of the city.

This comes after a traditional witchdoctor identified as Siraj Wanzala, 70, was on yesterday arrested and detained at CPS Jinja for allegedly raping his client, just days after Joshua Wandegeya, a teacher attached to White Rose Junior school in Kainogoga allegedly defiled his 6-year-old pupil.

According to Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James, the witch doctor using his magic powers commonly known as ‘Juju’ performed the rituals in his shrine at night in the month of May 2023.

“He allegedly ordered the victim to undress for cleansing or to sprinkle magic greenish fluid all over her body but he ended up raping his patient,” SP Mubi said.

“The witch doctor purportedly sprinkled greenish magic water on the victim and later on raped her in disguise that the sexual intercourse was necessary for her healing process. He has been on the run but police have been working tirelessly to have him arrested,” he added.

The victim narrated to police that she paid 120,000= to the witch doctor to perform the May 2023 healing ritual after experiencing ailments ranging from something moving in her stomach like a snake and other virtual sexual intercourse against her in the nights.

However, the victim alleges that after the cleansing, her life has not been the same as she experiences nightmares of the witch doctor threatening to kill her if she discloses to authorities that she was raped during the cleansing process in May 2023.

SP Mubi appreciated the victim for the boldness in reporting the matter and having the suspect apprehended on charges of rape.

He condemned the acts of ill intentions among some witch doctors who exploit people financially on top of harassing them sexually, especially women and called upon women who face the same to report to authorities as the only mean of wiping out bad elements among the traditional healers.

“We are going to have specific operations in Kainogoga to wipe out wrong elements connected with ‘Juju’ who are taking advantage of innocent persons especially women by assaulting their sexuality and exploiting them financially,” SP Mubi vowed.
