IGANGA, (UG): The assessment officer in evaluation at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr Kisige Mande Robert has asked schools to embrace sports as a means of discovering talents in children and interesting them with studies given their participation in a number of games.

Mr Kisige was over the weekend officiating as the chief guest during the sports day function at Hillside Ways Nursery and Primary School in Nakalama Sub-county in Iganga district where he expressed the need for preparing children in activities which give them the morale to study from childhood.

“These sports activities help our children since they exhibit capabilities in a number of games and their talents can be identified. These days, a child can be identified in what he/she can do best in the field of sports which is opposed to precious days where children were even forced to go to school without anything like sports activities pushing them,” Mr Kisige said.

Kisige also appreciated the new curriculum which implements visible things where pupils are taught about things with tangible examples. He says this makes the learners interested in learning and parents can easily appreciate a school after observing the best in their children.

“The curriculum which changed operates in line with implementing things with physical examples and this attracts the interest of the learners towards their studies. This is different from previous years where learners could be taught theories without the practical part,” he added.

“These sports activities are very important in fighting some diseases since the pupils grow physically fit through these games. We’re as well trying to identify and promote the talents of our pupils,” Mr Mwondha said before calling upon parents to also support their children in growing their talents.

On the other hand, the headteacher Mr Samuel Mulavu in his remarks said that the school has been able to adopt the new curriculum given the challenges in implementing it where learners need physical examples. He commended the parents for supporting the school amidst recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
