NAKASONGOLA: Nasty motor crash claims four on Gulu-Kampala Highway

Nakasongola, (UG): A tragic road accident on Monday four people dead a few others injured following a fatal motor crash along the Gulu-Kampala highway.

The incident occurred in the early hours of August 14, 2023, near Katugo Town Council in Nakasongola district.

The victims have been identified as Emmanuel Isingoma, Manuel Nyakato, Victoria Nalubwama, and Benard Ntege. The circumstances surrounding their untimely demise have plunged their families, friends, and the local community into deep sorrow.

According to a statement issued by Sam Twineamazima, the Regional Police Spokesperson, the accident involved two vehicles: a white Toyota Hiace with registration No. UAM 930P and a Tata lorry with registration No. UBB 736C. The Tata lorry had encountered a mechanical problem and had been parked in the middle of the road at Katugo Town Council since the previous evening, around 11 p.m.

Tragedy struck when the driver of the Toyota Hiace, coming from the direction of Gulu, lost visibility due to the blinding lights of an approaching bus from Kampala. The driver was unable to avoid a collision with the stationary Tata lorry. The impact of the collision claimed the lives of four individuals on the spot, leaving a scene of devastation in its wake.

“The deceased include Emmanuel Isingoma, Manuel Nyakato, Victoria Nalubwama, and Benard Ntege. Their lives were tragically cut short, leaving behind shattered families and a community grappling with the weight of their loss,” ASP Twineamaziima said.

In the aftermath of the accident, the bodies of the deceased were transported to Nakasongola Health Center IV Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Meanwhile, the injured were promptly taken to St. Franciscan Health Center before being transferred to Mulago Hospital for further medical attention.

“The incident highlights the importance of road safety measures and the need for both motorists and authorities to remain vigilant on the roads. As the nation grieves the loss of these individuals, questions are being raised about ways to prevent such tragic accidents in the future,” the regional police spokesman added.
