Four detained over murder of 65-year-old man in Lira

North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the report

Lira, (UG): The Police at Lira Central Police Station have arrested four suspects in connection to the murder of 65-year-old Ogwang Alfred, a resident of Okwor-Okwor cell, Bulobo ward in Lira-City East Division.

The North Kyoga Region police spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the report saying the quartet currently held at Lira-City CPS allegedly committed the murder act on the night of Sunday, August 20 as reported by Mr Okullo Moses, the chairman LC1 of Okwor-Okwor cell.

According to SP Okema’s police statement, “It’s alleged that on 20th August 2023 at around 23:00 hours, the lead suspect, one Apita Joshua picked up a domestic misunderstanding with his wife identified as Awor Filly and ended up fighting each other which prompted Apita’s father, Ogwang Alfred (now deceased) to intervene and stop them.”

However, the couple instead turned against Ogwang and beat him up using a hoe handle which killed him on the spot.

Later, the deceased was pulled away with the help of his children at a distance of 100 meters away and dumped inside the pit where Marram was excavated.

On receipt of this information, a case file of murder was registered at Lira-City CPS, and the crime scene was visited by a team of police officers.
