Red Cross Society receives sh2.1bn for water and sanitation activities in Obongi

Obongi, (UG): The Uganda Redcross Society and the German Redcross have received two billion one hundred and sixty million shillings for implementing water and sanitation activities in Obongi district to be implemented between August and December this year.

The activities which include water extension, construction of toilets, and health promotion will be implemented in Itula and Palorinya sub-counties.

This was disclosed by the director of Health URCS Dr. Josephine Okwera during an inception meeting presided over by the RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka at the Lutheran World Federation offices in Palorinya sub-county.

Dr. Okwera disclosed that the sh2.1 billion is part of the over 10.5 billion shillings to be given to the district in the next five years.

Presiding over the inception meeting the RDC Mpimbaza thanked the German government for the over 10.5 billion shillings grant which will go a long way in improving health services in the refugee camps and host communities in Obongi district.

He called for transparency and proper accountability of all funds received.

The RDC requested the Uganda Red cross society leadership to submit details of the projects which include the work plan, budget, and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) of all the projects to be done before implementation begins.

Mpimbaza warned the officials in charge of the projects against any corruption during its implementation.
