Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have been drawn with Manchester United in Group A of the 2023/24 Champions League season. The other two teams in the Group are FC Copenhagen of Denmark and SK Galatasaray of Turkey.
Thursday’s draw for the group stage also placed Arabian-owned clubs; Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United together in Group F, which has been dubbed the “Group of Death”. These are alongside Italy’s AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund of Germany.
Manchester City who will be looking to defend their UEFA Champions League title renew acquaintances with RB Leipzig in Group G. The two will be joined by Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) and Swiss side, Young Boys FC.

When does the group stage start?
The UEFA Champions League group stage kicks off in September. It will commence shortly after the first international break of the season, which runs from September 4-12.
The group stage dates are:
- Matchday 1: September 19/20 2023
- Matchday 2: October 3/4 2023
- Matchday 3: October 24/25 2023
- Matchday 4: November 7/8 2023
- Matchday 5: November 28/29 2023
- Matchday 6: December 12/13 2023
When are the UEFA Champions League knockout stages?
The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League knockout matches begin in February 2024.
The final will be played at Wembley on June 1, 2024.
The schedule for the knockout stages is:
- Round of 16: February 13/14/20/21 and March 5/6/12/13 2024
- Quarter-finals: April 9/10 and 16/17 2024
- Semi-finals: April 30/May 1 and May 7/8 2024
- Final: June 1 2024
What you need to know
The UEFA Champions League format remains the same this season, with 32 teams in the group stage, spread across eight groups of four.
From the 2024/25 season, the number of teams competing in the group stage will increase from 32 to 36.
