Man, 33, arrested for impersonating police officer in Nakaseke

NAKASEKE, UGANDA: The Territorial Police in Nakaseke are investigating an impersonation case involving a 33-year-old man who was arrested on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Semuto traffic checkpoint in Kikondo Zone, Nakaseke District.

Police Spokesperson for Savannah Region, ASP TwineAmazima Sam identified the impersonator as Atwiine Allan, a resident of Busabala Zone, Makindye Division, in Wakiso District.

Accordnig to ASP TwineAmazima, preliminary findings indicate that on Friday at around 15:30 hours, Atwiine arrived at the checkpoint and began impersonating a police officer, specifically claiming to be a Superintendent of Police attached to the Katwe Division in Kampala Metropolitan.

“However, the Officer in Charge of Traffic in Semuto became suspicious and conducted a thorough interrogation. Atwiine Allan eventually admitted to his impersonation, leading to his arrest, and a case of impersonation was formally registered,” said the regional police spokesperson.

“Further inquiries into this matter are ongoing,” he added.

Police further appealed to the public against impersonating security personnel and to report any such cases to the nearest authorities when suspected.

“We strongly appeal to the public to refrain from impersonating police officers, as such actions are subject to severe penalties. If anyone encounters such impersonation, we urge you to promptly report it to the nearest authorities.”
