Man, 28, arrested over aggravated robbery, rape and murder

Iganga, (UG): Police in Iganga District in eastern Uganda have arrested and detained a 28-year-old suspect on charges of aggravated robbery, rape and murder in a Sunday tragic incident.

The suspect identified as Ndijuwani Paul, and others still at large are suspected of having participated in the murder of a 28-year-old woman identified as Nagujja Huudah, a resident of Nkono 1, Northern division of Iganga Municipality.

Nagujja’s body was discovered on Sunday afternoon by her landlord who informed the relatives before reporting the matter to police for action.

According to Busoga East Police Spokesperson, SSP Diana Nandawula, the suspect who is currently in custody at Iganga Central Police Station was arrested on Monday afternoon with the aid of a police sniffer dog which led police to his hideouts,

“…yes, we have arrested Ndijuwani Paul in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old Nagujja Huudah who was found raped and murdered in her rented room. The suspect was arrested using our sniffer dog which led us from the crime scene to where he was,” Ms Nandawula said adding that some house property of the deceased was also taken as exhibits to aid with the ongoing investigations.

SSP Nandawula told DailyExpress the woman’s body was discovered with serious bruises and deep cuts, an implication that the perpetrators used sharp tools to end Nagujja’s life. She said the suspect now faces charges of aggravated robbery, rape and murder.

“The suspect will be charged with aggravated robbery, rape and murder. He’s being detained at Iganga Central Police Station and the search for other suspects is ongoing to establish the killers’ motive,” Nandawula added.

By press time on Tuesday evening, the body of the deceased had been taken to Iganga General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem as investigations into the murder case continue.
