Police officer shoots wife dead at Jinja Road barracks

Kampala, (UG): The Police in Kampala are holding a policeman attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit of Police on allegations of shooting his wife in a murder incident that happened at Jinja Road Police barracks.

The killer policeman identified as AIP Edward Ogwang is alleged to have shot dead his wife Cpl Atino Jeniffer in a tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday, September 5, at around 5 p.m. leaving the police community in utter shock and disbelief.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, Cpl Atino was a member of the Very Important Person Protection Unit (VIPPU), and the couple resided at the Jinja Road Police Barracks, where the murder incident took place.

“It is alleged that today 05 Sep. 23 at around 1715 hours, AIP Egwang David a police officer attached to Counter Terrorism tactical Naguru shot his wife dead with a pistol while at Jinja road police barracks where they have been staying,” SSP Onyango said in a police statement.

“The deceased who is his wife has been identified as Corporal (Cpl) Atino Jennifer attached to the Very Important Person Protection Unit of Police (VIPPU) at Parliament,” he added.

Onyango confirmed that AIP Ogwang is currently in custody at the Jinja Road Police Division, where he awaits interrogation by authorities as investigations kick off into the matter.

“The motive of the shooting is suspected to be domestic violence The suspect, AIP Egwang David is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Division awaiting interrogation.”
