Kaabong, (UG): Two people have been shot dead in a road ambush along Kotido-Kaabong road by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
The afternoon deadly incident happened on Friday at Moruitit camp on September 8, 2023, in Longaro parish, Sidok Sub County some 40 kilometers North of Kotido town in Kaabong district.
Police say they suspect that the attackers were Dodoth warriors.
The murders have sent shock waves and shattered hope within the community whose leaders through respective clans had a few days ago appealed for peaceful co-existence and unity in the Karamoja sub-region.
A police statement authored by the officer in charge crime desk Detective Inspector of Police James Mutare says two the deceased both male were identified as: Daniel Owana, of Naligoi village, Biafra South parish in Kaabong town council and a one Ojapis who hails from Kotome village, Kotome parish, Lodiko Sub County in Kaabong district. The pair were reportedly heading to Kaabong after attending cultural evets in Napak
According to Mutare, the deceased were stopped by gunmen who led them into the bush some 10 metres before they stripped them off their bedsheets, searched for any other property before they were killed in cold blood.
Their bodies, the motorcycle ( reg no UFG 996P a Bajaj red in colour), and the bedsheets were recovered by police near the scene of crime.
By press time, the gunmen remained at large.
