Kyabazinga of Busoga, HRH William Nadiope Gabula IV, addressing subjects at his 9th coronation in Kigulu, Iganga District on Wednesday, September 13, 2023

Iganga, (UG): The Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope Kadhumbula IV has assured his subjects that the Kingdom’s land cannot be sold as it has recently been rumoured.

The comments from the Kyabazinga come amid reports that had earlier this month emerged accusing the royals of selling part of the Kingdom’s land found in Jinja to some individuals.

The Kyabazinga who was clad in ekanzu (read tunic) and a blue garment with a crown at his 9th coronation anniversary in Kigulu Chiefdom on Wednesday said that he only has the sole mandate to permit any development on the land asserting that the land can only be leased to development partners but not individuals.

“I have a special announcement and it goes that the kingdom of Busoga does not sell land and I want to publicly put it clear today that the kingdom only leases land. There is no individual lease among the leases that have been done except for the development partners of the kingdom and I call upon any of you to come and get leases on these lands and establish factories or anything in order to create jobs for our people,” Kyabazinga announced at the coronation ceremony on Wednesday at Namungalwe Saza grounds, Namungalwe sub-county, Iganga district.

He added; “I’m the only one with authority to give out land in Busoga Kingdom because I represent the whole Busoga. What I do is to give express powers of patron to the Katuukiro alone, and they are also registered in Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).”
