Rwampara, (UG): The Territorial Police in Rwizi Region are holding six suspects over the alleged torture and murder of Tuhirwe Moses, a 48-year-old peasant, of Mwizi village in Kabura Town Council, Rwampala District.
The 6 suspects who are currently in custody at Rwampara CPS include; Mucunguzi Joash (18), Kiiza Sebastiano (30), Ahimbisibwe Augustine (37), Kainerugaba Ronald (19), Benda Christopher (22) and Kwikiriza Victor, (17).
It is alleged that the victim on September 25, 2023, at around 10 pm, had a fight with Mucunguzi Joash, and they were separated.
However, out of anger, Mucunguzi, mobilised his friends and went looking for the victim at his home, but did not find him.
“They met him on the way, tortured and inflicted 3 deep wounds on his forehead, which led to his death. They dumped his body in a banana plantation,” Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said in a Monday security briefing in Kampala.
“We wish to inform the public that torture is a punishable crime and can lead to murder. We urge the public to avoid such acts of lawlessness and impunity by observing the rule of law.”
Enanag said Police remain committed to pursuing all incidents of torture and murder and will ensure that all perpetrators responsible are brought to book.
