Police Agencies, (UG): The Territorial Police in Otuke district and Busia District last week carried out two separate deadly operations in which two notorious robbers were put out of action during a heated gunfire exchange and two guns recovered in the process.

While addressing the media on Monday, October 02, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga identified the Busia robber as Kudu Ashraf alias Mr X, and the one in Otuke as Ouni Norman Kaunda killed in two separate incidents respectively.

According to Mr Enanga, the Busia incident happened last Monday, September 25, when the anti-robbery team in the area pursued Mr X after his armed robbery, where he shot and injured Najjuko Prossy, a money exchange dealer at Arubaine market.

“Police swiftly responded and surrounded the robber at Maweru East “B” in Busia district.  He was fatally wounded during a fire exchange. An SMG with 16 rounds, cash Ugx 21,175,000/= Kshs, 612,005, and phones were all recovered pending handover to the victim. The victim was also rushed to Busia HC IV for treatment,” Mr Enanga said.

In Otuke District, the incident happened on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at around 9 pm, when the Joint Anti-robbery team of the police and the UPDF responded to an armed robbery at Agweng cell, Owinyo ward and put out of action the notorious robber who was also wanted for theft of a gun.

Mr Enanga said police recovered an SMG, with 6 rounds and 24 bullets missing from the killed suspect.

“We strongly believe the recovery of the two guns from the hands of violent criminals will bring some bit of peace and safety in the respective communities. Our intelligence-led operations on illegal possession of firearms remain active and ongoing,” Enanga noted.
