Uganda ease past Mozambique in U20 Women’s World Qualifiers

Buikwe, (UG): The Uganda U20 Women’s national football team, also known as the Queen Cranes, has made an impressive stride in the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

In an exciting match held on Friday, October 13, at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, the Queen Cranes secured their spot in the third round by defeating Mozambique with a phenomenal 8-0 aggregate victory.

This remarkable achievement was built upon their dominant performance in the first leg, where the Queen Cranes confidently won with a resounding 6-0 triumph.

 The team wasted no time in setting the tone for their victory, with Phiona Nabulime’s header finding the back of the net just six minutes into the match, courtesy of a well-placed corner by Margaret Kunihira.

The Queen Cranes extended their lead in the 19th minute when Agnes Nabukenya unleashed a powerful shot from just outside the box, further solidifying their grip on the match by doubling their advantage.

Under the guidance of their coach Ayub Khalifa, the Queen Cranes are eagerly looking forward to their next challenge. They are set to face the winner of the Senegal vs. Benin matchup in the penultimate round of the qualifiers, with Senegal currently holding a 2-0 lead in that tie.

These upcoming qualifying matches will determine the four African teams that will earn the prestigious opportunity to represent the continent in the highly anticipated 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held in Colombia.

The outstanding performance and aggregate victory of the Queen Cranes against Mozambique have showcased their determination, teamwork, and skills.
